Personal Project In progress/completed

Title: The World of Chaos
Materials: Fabric, Acrylic Paint, Fabric Paint, Canvas
Size: Approximately 12x10

I chose to do this painting in light of the pandemic and the confusion and chaos it has brought people. I found that a variety of materials presented a chaotic look and demonstrated the world we were currently living in.

Diversity Banner Complete

  • Name of community organization
  • the tandana foundation
  • Mission statement for community organization.
  • Weaving friendships and Strengthening Communities
  • Website link for community organization.

https://tandanafoundation.org

  • Sketches (by hand or on computer).
  • Include info about color.
  • I chose these colors because they represent the flag of Ecuador which is of great cultural importance to the people of Otavalo
  • An explanation for each idea - why/how you arrived at the idea to use words and colors.

I used the words to represent the communities mission statement.

I used the hands to represent their logo and demonstrate the concept of “togetherness”

I used the colors for the flag of Ecuador

I chose To use the word together because it represented the mission statement of my boarding school. This word it’s close to my heart because if it weren’t for my teachers and friends and how we worked things out together I would’ve had a really hard time growing up away from my parents and siblings a boarding school. I chose these colors because they remind me of positivity and I thought it would complement the concept of togetherness and the positivity that comes with it.

Completed Dye Session 1

For Dye Session 1 I decided to use Tumeric to dye my fabric starting off with a ratio of 6 cups water and 2 tablespoons of Tumeric. For my first piece of fabric, I let it sit in the dye water for 15 minutes which made a dark, bright orange color. For my second piece of fabric, I let it sit for 10 minutes along with 5 minutes and 1 minute for my third and fourth piece. I noticed that the dying process with Tumeric was very quick and it didn't take long for an orangeish color to appear. I didn't rinse and dip any of the fabrics because I found that the color was appearing quicker than expected. For my Shibori method, I esentially just tied all 4 pieces into a ball together and let them sit in the dye bucket for 5 minutes which left me with a pretty tiedye color! It did turn out a little more white than expected! I am located at The Landing apartment complex so I believe I was using the cities water!
